Puppet Show

Noman re-enacted the story of the Three Billy Goats Gruff using the puppets and the puppet theatre. The children were very intrigued and listened to the story very carefully, laughing and participating throughout. Once the story was completed the children were then given the opportunity to tell a story themselves uses the available puppets - teddy bears, animals and people. Most of the children were excited about using the puppets and a few of them re-enacted some of their home experiences, acting out what their parents would do at home and using a range of different vocal and facial and expressions.

Dragon

As part of the Chinese New Year Celebrations we had a go at doing a Dragon Dance.

Forming a long train the children placed colorful fabric over their heads and moved around the room swaying to the music. They had lots of fun!

Torches Torches

Over the last month the children have noticed how quickly the light fades in the evenings. Although they were really interested in the dark they were a little hesitant to go out and explore the garden so we decided to introduce the torches. The children were really excited and wanted to try them inside as well.

We closed the blinds, switched off the lights and then used the torches to make shadows on the walls and ourselves

Parachute Play

During extended provision we have been exploring different ways to use the parachute but due to the weather - and the fact that it gets dark quite early - we have alternated between using the parachute indoors and outdoors.

We encouraged the children to work together, holding onto the edge of the parachute and moving it up and down. The children chose different songs and sang along whilst shaking the parachute up, down, fast, slow, across and round.

The children enjoyed this activity and had great fun!

Merry Christmas from us all in Extended Provision

Dressing up

November 2019

We recently introduced a variety of dressing up clothes that reflect different cultures into the room and the children have all been very intrigued to put them on and show them to their friends. Together they have re-enacted personal home experiences whilst sitting down to share a meal in the role play area.

CHRISTMAS FUN
Extended provision children have enjoyed celebrating the last few week at nursery with lots of fun festive activities. From dressing up in their Christmas jumpers, decorating the tree, making paint prints with trees and angels, singing and dancing, icing biscuits and making cards. The children were more than happy to participate and really got into the Christmas spirit.
Merry Christmas!!

Construction play November 2019
We put out some recycled boxes, big foam blocks and wooden community blocks and trucks for the children to play with.
Together the children set off to make a range of structures and were happy to help each other out and share ideas and resources. They took it in turns to place a piece on, giggling and laughing each time their structure was unstable and tumbled down.

Leaf Printing November 2019

We noticed that the children were showing an interest in the leaves which had fallen on the ground in the garden. The children enjoyed searching through the leaves and identifying the different colours, texture and sizes they found.
We then put out a variety of paints - autumn colours - so that the children could do some leaf printing. They really enjoyed painting the leaves and getting messy.

Pizza, pizza and more pizza

This holiday, we decided to do some cooking. We all gathered around the mat and discussed some of our favourite foods. Pizza came up a lot. So we thought why don't we get our aprons on and make our very own pizza. Prior to making it we looked at lots of photographs of real life pizza - some with mushrooms, some with olives and even some with pineapple Once we had an idea of how pizza is made and the different kinds of topping we could put on pizza, it was time to make our own. We chose FOUR main and basic ingredients, pizza base mix, water, tomato sauce and cheese

We rolled our sleeves up, washed our hands and split into three groups with one adult in each group. We started off by weighing the flour, making sure we did not go over the 500g mark, and followed this by gradually adding some lukewarm water and giving it a big mix. Once the dough was mixed, we made sure we kneaded the dough so it became all squishy like play dough. We all made sure we took turns in adding the ingredients, mixing and rolling.
We then got our own dough ball, and began to pat, roll and squish until it was flat and round. We added some tomato sauce followed by lots and lots of cheese. Once we were done, we sent the pizzas to the oven in the kitchen (which the adult did because the oven is hot hot hot) and waited. It wasn't long before they were ready. Some of us took our pizzas home to enjoy and some of us got to eat it at nursery!

Today was the first day of holiday provision, and we’ve had so much fun. As it was hot, we got to paddle our feet in the water feature we have in Green Room’s garden. We made sure we had our shoes off and had rolled our trousers all the way up so we didn’t get them wet.
We then began splish splash sploshing, feeling the cold, wet and cooling water run in between our toes. Some of us used our hands too. We jumped and skipped and tiptoed across the water.

July 2019

With Ramadan coming to an end the children had a go at making their very own Eid Dream Catchers. The process involved lots of creativity.

Firstly we used sponges to dab three bright colours on to our paper plates

We then set that aside to dry and began decorating a crescent moon and stars which has a significance during Ramadan and Eid with bright coloured tissue paper. Once the plates were dry we attached string and 'voila' our very own Eid Dream Catcher.

The children also got to create their very own henna patterns. We looked at a variety of patterns for inspiration and then had the chance to create our own.

.Happy Eid to the families and children that celebrate!

Cooking

During our Easter holiday provision the children have taken an interest in cooking. The children had the opportunity to make their very own chocolate bird nests topped with mini eggs and also some delicious chocolate chip cookies. We made sure we had all our ingredients and utensils ready and made sure our hands were nice and clean. All the children enjoyed getting involved, especially eating it at the end!

Making Playdough

March 2019

In holiday provision we got creative and made our very own play-dough from scratch. We made sure we had all our ingredients, utensils and bowls ready before starting. We all took turns and got involved. Once we put all the ingredients together, making sure to measure it all out and mix it well, Tamaney went ahead and cooked the play-dough mixture. We then had to wait for it to cool down before finally using the play-dough.
