January 2020

The children have been fascinated by the various minibeasts we have been finding outside - worms, beetles, earwigs and spiders. Noman found some toy spiders which he hung up in the room and this sparked an interest in making their own models with a range of materials.

Bird tray

Over the last few weeks the children have been watching the birds in the garden and talking about what they eat. Using the woodwork tools - saws, hammers and nails - they have worked with Noman to create a bird tray so that they can feed the birds everyday.

Library

We have really enjoyed visiting the library over the last few weeks as part of our group time sessions. We have been choosing our own books from the shelves and reading them independently or with our friends. Sometimes we share a favourite story with our Key Worker.
The Library is now open on

WEDNESDAYS 8.45-9-30am and 12.30-1.15pm for children and parents to visit and borrow books

Autumn

The children in Green Room have enjoyed exploring the outdoor environment

 looking for leaves and other

natural resources such as sticks and pine cones.

November 2019

The children in green room have been using creating different types of marks on paper using a range of different resources e.g. the wheels on cars/trains, balls and brushes.

The children have been making choices, exploring new textures and expressing their opinions on how it feels and what it looks like.July 2019

Green's Hair and Beauty Salon

At green’s hair and beauty salon the children take it in turn to do their friends hair. They have been provided with a range of resources such as brushes, curlers, bobbles, hair bands, straighteners and wigs. The children have enjoyed interacting with each other at the salon and exploring the different equipment which has helped to further develop their gross and fine motor skills.          July 2019

Playing house

The children in green room have been provided with big and small reclaimed boxes to play with at nursery. Together the children shared their home experiences, giggled and laughed at what they had to say to one another. The children took it in turns to go outside and knock on the door before being let in by their peers. The children were happy to play this game and enjoyed sharing their ideas together for a long period of time

Snails As the garden grows the children have been noticing changes to the trees and bushes. They have been looking for bugs under logs and in the leaves. Staff have talked to the children about using gentle hands  with the insects they find and using magnifying glasses to get a closer look.

We found some snails and wanted to look after them, so we made a home in a tank and discussed what a snail would need in their home and collected the natural resources from the garden. We found 4 snails to move into the tank, the children helped by giving them some fruit and spraying water on the soil.

Celebrating Easter

The children have been celebrating Easter in Green room. The children had the opportunity to participate in lots of activities. e.g. egg hunt, egg and spoon race, making egg nests, using Easter cutters with play dough and collaging their own Easter card.

The children got very hands on and creative with the egg nest. Together each group poured rice crispies into a bowl, added some chocolate and then stirred them together to form their nests. To finish their nest the children added some mini eggs and happily licked their fingers clean. YUMMY!!

Chicks

The children from Green and Orange rooms received a special visit off the chicks from Nursery School. The children gathered together on the carpet to watch as Noman picked a chick up out of the incubator and showed the children how to hold it properly.

Children were then encouraged to gently stroke and hold the chick if they wished to do so. Although not all of the children wanted to do this they watched as the others demonstrated careful handing of the chicks.

Planting cress April 2019

The children in Green Room were given the opportunity to plant some cress  seeds and watch as they grew and developed day by day. The children enjoyed this experience and were happy to participate.

Once it had grown we cut the cress and the children were able to touch and smell it  before  making themselves a cress sandwich (with adult support).  Yummy!!

Dinner time March 2019

Using mud, water, grass and stones the children have been cooking up ‘food’ for family and friends. Mixing and pouring ingredients together, turn taking and sharing their home experiences they have all happily accessed the out door mud kitchen
